A statue of ‘mcjesus’ is causing controversy in israel. the sculpture of a crucified ronald mcdonald, on display in the country’s haifa museum of art since august, sparked protests last week, with many arab christians calling the piece ‘insensitive’ and ‘offensive.’ even the finnish artist behind the work, jan leinonen, asked for the sculpture to be taken down, but for a different reason – he supports a palestinian-led initiative to boycott israeli goods and services, and says the piece was displayed against his wishes. the museum plans to keep the sculpture up, citing their freedom of expression.
Jason spindler, an american businessman who survived the 9/11 attacks in new york, was killed in a terror attack on a hotel in nairobi, kenya on tuesday. he was one of at least 21 people killed when armed gunmen burst into the dusitd2 hotel complex. at least 28 others were injured. spindler had already narrowly survived the terror attacks on the world trade center on sept. 11, 2001 when he was running late for work. he witnessed the first building come down as he emerged from the subway, his mother told reporters (📸: jason spindler/ facebook)
