Are you afraid of failure?
โž–โž–โž–โž–โž–โž–โž–โž–โž–โž–โž–โž–โž–
personally, i love failure as much (or even more) as i love winning.
-
failure is the tool through which i learn how to win. i learn from my mistakes, from my bad decisions.
-
then, i take note of those things and implement them again in a positive way in order to obtain a favorable outcome.
-
i can’t wait to meet the obstacles and failures of #team_mejia , so i can win and reach my goals.
-
dear failures: you don’t scare me, i am waiting for you, and i promise...you won’t bring me down. you will lift me up, make me learn and you will help me to achieve greatness.
-
fail first, then succeed.

Do you use weights? or do you train only calisthenics?.
โž–โž–โž–โž–โž–โž–โž–โž–โž–โž–โž–โž–โž–
this is a very common question i get.
-
the answer is : yes, i do use weights. it is 20% of my training. i mix it with weights because i believe is the best way to achieve a complete physique, stay functional and isolate some muscles (here the biceps).
-
there is also like a “taboo” when people that do calisthenics use weights. as i have in my profile since last year , i do calisthenics + weights. meaning 80% of my training is calisthenics and 20% is weights (legs, and isolation work).
-
this isolation work is done when i finish my workout. for example: today i trained 5 exercises, which 4 of them where calisthenics and the last one was this biceps curl.
-
why?: for three reasons : - [ ] 1. after doing calisthenics if you want to isolate the muscle is very difficult since you will tend to pull more with one arm than another(i.e in pull ups or chin ups), and also i was tired and couldn’t do more than 3 pull ups at that moment .
- [ ] 2. i like to feel the pump in the muscles ๐Ÿคฃ
- [ ] 3. as an athlete, you have to maximize your trainings and combining different exercises will make your body react to different stimulus , so you can have a great performance. doing or not doing curls won’t affect my performance at all, but will help my body react to a different exercise.
-
that’s why after every workout at the gym i isolate a body part that i want with weights.
-
pd: for all the bodybuilding experts, excuse me if the form is not the best !
pd2: i am using a wrist wrap because i’ve been having some pain in my wrist for a week or two . -

Passion is your backup generator when all your other energy sources start to sputter
passion keeps you happy.
โž–โž–โž–โž–โž–โž–โž–โž–โž–โž–โž–โž–
i used to think that this wasn’t true, how passion is going to be my strength or my energy ?.
-
but in this month, with uni exams , stress, less sleep and sore body, i realized i was wrong.
-
my passion for sport , for calisthenics keeps me going . i am sometimes tired, but i workout , because my goal is bigger and my dream is huge!!!
-
i apply this not only to sport but for my upcoming business, it is hard ,but passion beats laziness.
-
do what you love and love what you do โค๏ธโค๏ธ.
and don’t forget to smile!!

Making training fun and challenging ๐Ÿ”ฅ
โž–โž–โž–โž–โž–โž–โž–โž–โž–โž–โž–โž–โž–โž–โž– i superset this exercises, you don’t need to if it’s too challenging. on the other hand if you can’t do them in a row , just take some rest between.
-
since doing this exercises i’ve noticed great strength gains on the abs , they are stronger and they respond better when doing statics and tricks .
training them is an important thing to be a well round athlete!!!
-
this are the exercises:
1. wheel : adding this resistance band makes it much more challenging!!( give it a try, i know it looks easy)
2. incline abdominal crunches (i don’t know the exact name of this exercise): just go all the way down and the up. i used a 15 kg plate , but adapt it to your possibilities
3. hollow body (as i call it with my friends at the park “ la cunita “): the technique is important . imagine they are stretching your from the hands and the fit , making you to be as horizontal as possible, the only contact point is your lower back. when doing it try to avoid raising arms or legs as it will make it easier and no-effective . squeeze that core and stay straight.
-
this was my superset for today , 5 reps of each exercise .
-
give it a try and feel the burn ๐Ÿ”ฅ๐Ÿ˜ˆ.

Which is my current routine?
โž–โž–โž–โž–โž–โž–โž–โž–โž–โž–โž–โž–โž–
from monday to sunday : smile
-
i’m joking (or maybe not๐Ÿค—)
my routine is very simple : 2 days of weighted calisthenics , 1 day of bodyweight training,1 day of skills , 1 day of leg and 1 day of upper body(weighted calisthenics +weights) with legs .
-
i train legs twice a week because :
1. i love training legs
2. are an important muscle , generate growth hormones and at the same time i rest my upper body
3. this is the muscle where i have more strength in the competition weight and i must take advanced of that. since i am a beginner the other athletes will do more reps in dips or pull ups , but as my leg game is strong , i am going to take advantage of it and try to outperform them ๐Ÿ’ช๐Ÿป๐Ÿ’ช๐Ÿป.
4. i don’t want to be a croissant ๐Ÿฅ and have chicken legs ๐Ÿ— .
-
i train 6 days a week, i know it is a lot, but my workouts are shorter since i have a high training frequency.
from time to time i do deload weeks and in some months i lower the volume / days and train maybe 5/4 , but for now i’m feeling good so i will keep doing this routine .
-
as you may see i’m not focused right now on skills (which are great for showing of and impress ) . i have a goal and i must gain strength .
-
set by step and soon i will be there ๐Ÿ’ช๐Ÿป#weightedjourney #team_mejia

Current goals
โž–โž–โž–โž–โž–โž–โž–โž–โž–โž–โž–โž–โž–โž–
as most of you may know , i have a long term goal which is becoming an athlete. compete around my country and around the world .
-
this is not easy and requires strength and sacrifice, not only physically but mentally.
-
physically i feel a little bit tired (mid term at uni stress and less sleep), but mentally i feel stronger than ever. i am motivated to be the best version of myself, not only in sport but personally and in future businesses.
-
i must admit that it is not easy, you have to make “sacrifices” (i.e go to sleep early to train the next day , eat good , not to be d***k every weekend , etc , etc . but i choose to compete and that’s the “price “ i have to pay(which is not a sacrifice for me)). a lot of people criticize but i don’t give a f****๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚.
-
as i always say: love what you do and do what you love โค๏ธ -
these are my goals related to sport ๐Ÿ’ช๐Ÿป, of course i have a lot related to business and personal .. you will see them as you follow me in this journey #weightedjourney #team_mejia #streetworkout

When did i start calisthenics? why did i start it?
โž–โž–โž–โž–โž–โž–โž–โž–โž–โž–โž–โž–โž–โž–
to answer this question we have to go back 4 years. i started with a pullup bar (inspired by @barbrothers ) in my house, i did like 1/5 pull ups per day.
-
then i started going to the gym for two years where i obtained minimum results ๐Ÿ˜‚. at the beginning i was motivated to be one of that fitness athletes with a nice body, but i did not realize that 90% of them where on steroids ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿคท๐Ÿป‍โ™‚๏ธ i was so innocent...
-
then a year ago i discovered nice calisthenics athletes , i saw some guys on instagram (one of them was @den_vital , and i had the opportunity to meet him and workout with last summer) i knew what calisthenics was but i didn’t pay attention at the moment (august 2017). then, at the beginning of 2018 i started implementing it to my workouts, and it was fun!!! every day i was waiting for the last exercises of the workout because they were calisthenics exercises, they were challenging and different. -
so as i was having fun and i was motivated with calisthenics i decided to quit weights. -
first a lot of people told me i was not goin to obtain results , that it was for silly people that calisthenics sport ... and as always ... i did what i want๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚.
-
so i’ve been into calisthenics for 6 months now!!! i’m like a baby in this sport ๐Ÿ‘ถ๐Ÿผ.
-
i am progressing, step by step and i am happy, other may progress fast that me , but this journey is against myself๐Ÿ˜ค๐Ÿ’ช๐Ÿป.
-
i do weighted calisthenics because it is the most interesting type of calisthenics for me (rather than freestyle) but that is just my opinion. -
weightlifting provided me previous strength, that’s why when i started calisthenics the basic exercises ( pull ups dips or push ups) were easy for me, and that’s also the reason why when i started weighted calisthenics some months ago i already had strength and my progress was faster than anyone who starts from 0.
-
so this is my history. started with weightlifting, realized it was no fun for me , tried calisthenics, fell in love with it , and been doing it for 6 months ๐Ÿ˜.
-
love what you do and do what you love โค๏ธ

Superset to finish my workout!!!๐Ÿ˜ˆ๐Ÿ˜ˆ
โž–โž–โž–โž–โž–โž–โž–โž–โž–โž–โž–โž–โž–
first of all excuse me for the video quality, the camera man/ friend at the gym (@shezai98 )was so hyped with the music and looking other things ๐Ÿ‘€that forgot to record properly ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿคท๐Ÿป‍โ™‚๏ธ.
-
the superset consist of maximum pull ups with +24 kg , then +12 kg , bodyweight and assisted. i tried to maintain full form but it is almost impossible when you are tired hahahaha
-
do it all in a row, with no rest in between .
-
i like to do 5 sets of it because :
1. i like to test my limits
2. i like to feel that burn in my muscles
3. i see if my endurance is improving or not
4. as my bodybuilding idol say @stevecook : last set, best set ๐Ÿ’ฏ๐Ÿ”ฅ
-
it may look easy but it’s not, after 1-1.5h of weighted calisthenics workout ....
-
once again, do what you love โค๏ธ #weightedjourney -
