The installation for our upcoming community exhibition, ‘no place like home’ is currently underway, and we’re super excited! this image is by muhcine ennou (@muhcines ), a netherlands-based moroccan artist who will be featured in the show. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
ennou took this photo at a time when he felt torn between morocco and the netherlands, two countries that are both home to him in their own ways. as a means to resolve this inner conflict and unsettling feeling of being displaced, he wanted to photograph places that held sentimental value for him. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
join us for our opening night on mon, sept 17 to see his work, and all the other artists featured at the exhibition. visit the link in our bio to register. we hope to see you there!
#sundayspotlight > we’re starting off this week by looking at photography from a different perspective. these images are from bahrain-based lebanese artist camille zakharia (@camillezakharia )’s project, ‘redefining space between borders’. zakharia specializes in photography, photomontages, and collages, and incorporated all these elements by layering photographic images taken of painted asphalt. the colours, lines, and textures of these objects are disjointed until they become barely recognizable, giving a personal and abstract meaning to the photographs. with these collages, he reflects on his journey away from his native land, and his attempt to find harmony within the boundaries of places he calls home. 🏠 ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
let us know what story these images tell you! ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
the series is currently being exhibited by cuadro art gallery (@cuadroart ) at @warehouse421 in abu dhabi until september 30th, go check it out in person! ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
