From our ceo @kevin:
“today, we have two big announcements to share. first, instagram is now a global community of one billion! since our launch in 2010, we’ve watched with amazement as the community has flourished and grown. this is a major accomplishment — so from all of us at instagram, thank you!
second, we’re announcing our most exciting feature to date: igtv, a new app for watching long-form, vertical video from your favorite instagram creators, like laurdiy (@laurdiy ) posting her newest project or king bach (@kingbach ) sharing his latest comedy skit. while there’s a stand-alone igtv app, you’ll also be able to watch from within the instagram app so the entire community of one billion can use it from the very start.
igtv is different in a few ways. first, it’s built for how you actually use your phone, so videos are full screen and vertical. also, unlike on instagram, videos aren’t limited to one minute. instead, each video can be up to an hour long.
we made it simple, too. just like turning on the tv, igtv starts playing as soon as you open the app. you don’t have to search to start watching content from people you already follow on instagram and others you might like based on your interests. you can swipe up to discover more — switch between “for you,” “following,” “popular” and “continue watching.” you can also like, comment and send videos to friends in direct.
also like tv, igtv has channels. but, in igtv, the creators are the channels. when you follow a creator on instagram, their igtv channel will show up for you to watch. anyone can be a creator — you can upload your own igtv videos in the app or on the web to start your own channel.
instagram has always been a place to connect with the people who inspire, educate and entertain you every day. with your help, igtv begins a new chapter of video on instagram. we hope it brings you closer to the people and things you love.
igtv will be rolling out globally over the next few weeks on ios and android.

trisikh sanguanbun (@ts_xiv ) paused in the middle of a lunchtime soccer game with local kids in havana to take a quick photo. “no matter what stage of life you’re in, we all need to play,” he says. “these kids reminded me to stay youthful and healthy through the game we all love, soccer.” ⚽️ #whpplay

“i’ve called this view home for over 10 years, and i’m still fascinated with how the weather plays with the city,” says chicago-based photographer craig shimala (@cshimala ). “it doesn’t get much better than watching lightning dance across the skyline.”⚡️

For david beckham (@davidbeckham ), the joys of fatherhood are the simple things: getting up with his kids in the morning, walking them to school, playing football in the park. “i’m so proud of each of my four children,” says david, whose eldest son brooklyn (@brooklynbeckham ) was born when david was 23. “each with their own personality from such an early age, they are incredible individuals in their own right.”
david’s top advice for new parents is to be present. “it is the greatest gift you can give your children,” he says. “for me, and many of the mums and dads i’ve spoken to about parenting over the years, it comes down to two things: love and fear. it’s these emotions that push us to achieve more for our children every day. my work with unicef (@unicef ) reminds me that parents all over the world experience these same emotions, no matter on their circumstance.”
sunday marks #fathersday in many countries around the world. tune in to our story now, because david and brooklyn are at home helping us celebrate.

weekend hashtag project: #whpplay to celebrate the kickoff of the #worldcup, the gooooooooooal this weekend is to create photos and videos inspired by athleticism, as in this feature photo by filipe costa (@filipefoto ).
capture the action. whether it’s in the streets, on the beach or in a stadium, show us the energy around your favorite activity or a fierce competition. try photographing from above to emphasize scale or geometric shapes, or exaggerate the dynamic nature of a single player by shooting from a low angle.
look for the before and after moments. capture the quiet anticipation and proud celebration.
show off athletic skills. take a video while you practice your freestyle football tricks, or of how you’ve trained your dog to get in on the match.
project rules: please add the #whpplay hashtag only to photos and videos shared over this weekend and only submit your own visuals to the project. if you include music in your video submissions, please only use music to which you own the rights. any tagged photo or video shared over the weekend is eligible to be featured next week.

“freestyle football has no boundaries,” says lisa zimouche (@lisafreestyle ), an 18-year-old from paris who travels the world performing agile tricks with nothing but a ball and her feet. 🤯⚽️ “my first memory of football is when i was 6 years old,” says lisa. “i saw some french freestylers putting on a show, and ever since i saw them playing, i wanted to do the same thing.”
leading up to the #worldcup, lisa is excited to see people rallying around their teams. “my favorite part of the world cup is the vibes,” she says. “people from each country supporting their teams, and everybody coming together around the same sport.”
