Up to now i've been picking lighter reads off my unread shelf but it's getting to the point that all i have left are these beasts! i've tabbed up how many pages i want to read each day in the hopes it'll make them more manageable and spur me on to finally get to them 😛

The woman was born to bring war between men - the tree of the valkyrie started it all; i wanted her sorely, the log of rare silver.
henceforward, my black eyes are scarcely of use to glance at the ring-land’s light-goddess, splendid as a swan.
.
.
the saga of gunnlaug serpent-tongue is the third book in the penguin little black classic series.
.
this icelandic saga tells the story of two warrior/poets named gunnlaug and hrafn.
gunnlaug wants to marry helga the fair but also wants to travel around scandinavia and the british islands.
he visits all kinds of great men and earls for who he recites very special poems.
during the absence of gunnlaug, hrafn tries to steal helga which creates a fascinating tale mixed with beautiful icelandic poems.
.
.
the writing is very special, you get a huge amount of names and family relations which can make it very complicated at first. all events are told and explained very simple but in an amusing way.
i very much enjoyed this saga and i’m definitely going to add more of these to my list!
.
.
have a great weekend everyone!
ours will be filled with sunshine and bathroom tiles!😄

Hey you guys 🙋i know i haven't posted anything from quite a long time coz i was busy figuring out stuffs...
.
i was following this #unreadshelfproject2018 but this project though seems easy is very hard to complete!
.
i mean reading books that you own is really a difficult work coz i personally feel that whatever books i own are not good enough & all the new releases in the market are better than i have!
.
anyways i've joined this project & i'm going to finish it anyway 🤓
.
but as i told you this project is difficult & boring so i'm going to read books according to the reading challenge that i found on pinterest 🤗
.
it will make my book reading fun 😀
.
wish me luck 👍

I'm joining #unreadshelfproject2018 again! bc last time i started, it turned into a mess 😣 (know about that in detail in my last post)
.
i know i'm 4 months late but it's better late than never 😉
.
now i'm not a very good reader. i mean i like books & i read them too but not regularly 🤓
.
most of the books that i have are either gifted or i bought them bc i was getting huge discounts on them 🤗
.
i'm kinda book hoarder which is not at all a good thing 😐
.
so i'm joining this project so that i can't buy any more books and read each & every book that i own 📚📚
.
wish me luck

How do you read short stories?
.
i have sooooo many collections and anthologies that are technically on my tbr but i never class them as part of my 'to-read' list because i often find them very tedious and can't sit and read them as a normal book (with the exception of a few). i usually go to them when i'm in a reading slump, because most of them were either chosen because i had to write a paper on them, or because i wanted to read a specific story in the collection. i only bought these for the mist, 1408, and the shawshank redemption adaptation.
.
i really wanna be able to get through more so my tbr can be reduced massively but have no idea how to do so 😅

Greetings from my to-read shelf (or at least half of it). it’s right above me when i sit at my desk in prime position to mock me for getting out more library books instead of reading these. if you are a subscriber your newsletter is in your inbox!!! if you are not, but you subscribe by the end of the day, i’ll send you this week’s email.

In louise penny’s 12th novel, a great reckoning, armand gamache begins a new challenge as commander at the sûreté academy. he has high expectations to retrain the cadets to be a kinder and thoughtful force. as always gamache tries to make the transition smooth, however when the old commander turns up murdered events change quickly.
not only is gamache a suspect for the m****r but so are all the cadets. there are so many questions that lead to gamache: why is the map important? who is amelia, one of the cadets, to gamache? why are there so many fingerprints on the weapon including gamache’s?
this story ties up so many story lines that have continued from previous books: gamache’s relationship with michel brebeuf, the history behind three pines and finally the depth of gamache’s kindness and forgiveness.
this is a *****/5 star book.

I was planning on getting caught up on the #12daysofbookstagram challenge, and of course there was another major blackout, which left the entire island of puerto rico without power, yesterday and then again this morning. so here's day 7: my nightstand last night. be back soon.

The last batch of books i've got through from my unread shelf. i'm still doing well with reading at least one or two a month despite being tempted away by the library. i also haven't bought any more books recently so none have been added to the pile! 😁

Oh, april...your weather has been terrible, but the reading has been lovely. i wrapped up another terrific deborah crombie novel this weekend (yes, it’s taken me all week to find time to post it...family life is crazy sometimes!). she dove into antique auction houses and the post-world war 2 jewish immigrant experience in england, while driving gemma and duncan on to a critical decision in their relationship.
.
.
this novel felt more fast-paced than previous ones, and the historical parallel narrative didn’t bog down the action at all. i love feeling neck-deep in london life while absorbed in one of her stories.
.
.
this was another read off my unread shelf! i have most of the remaining books of this series waiting for me, and i can’t wait to read another...
.
.
if you love deborah crombie, what other mystery series do you love? because we obviously have similar tastes. 😉.
.
.
drinking always winter white tea blend from @albionteaco - use code unreadshelf for 10% off your order through the end of april!

//⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️// “the attempt to change somebody’s mind is the death of good conversation.”

the ability to hold good conversations has become important to me; the skill for both listening and speaking is one that i would like to sharpen.

i came across we need to talk via a podcast where i heard the author speak of her work. she made a positive impression. i became curious about her book. the book did not disappoint.

within the pages i found many good and practical pointers to improve conversation for both speaking and listening. the author’s writing style appealed, and her voice throughout made the information presented very accesible. i came away from the book with many quotes and ideas to apply to my daily life. this does not mean my conversation skills improved overnight as that’s a constant work in progress. rather, i now have a clearer idea on what to keep in mind, where i can improve, and which steps to take over time. this is a book to return to periodically. there is a lot of good stuff to take in.

quotes: “through my experience and research, i’ve identified five key strategies that help facilitate a productive dialogue. they are: be curious, check your bias, show respect, stay the course, and end well.” p63

“the most basic of all human needs,” said dr. ralph nichols, who pioneered the study of listening, “is the need to understand and be understood. the best way to understand people is to listen to them.” i can say without exaggeration that listening is the most important skill i’ve acquired in my life.” p221

@beyondthebookends reading ‘the thornbirds’, a family saga set on a fictional sheep station in the australian outback. it was a bestseller in the 70s, then made into a top-rated american tv mini-series in the early 80s. #readoceania #readtheworld #repost @beyondthebookends
