Do you have any bookish secrets?📚⠀

like dogearing your pages or you have never read a novel by jane austen. or, you did read austen but you didn’t like it? do you ever feel you are ‘not supposed’ to love reading ya when you’re 30 years old? because that’s my bookish secret! i love reading young adult but i didn’t tell anyone before i started this bookstagram. now i can proudly say that i love twilight, books by sarah j. maas and the classics like persuasion and jane eyre at the same time.⠀
📚⠀
it was anne bogel in her book ‘i’d rather be reading’ who got me thinking about bookish secrets:⠀

“these secrets aren’t sins; they’re just secrets.⠀
[...]⠀
reader you’re not the only one. keep confessing to your fellow readers; tell them what your reading life is really like. they’ll understand. they may even say, “you too?” and when they do, you’ve found a friend. and the beginnings of a great book club.”⠀

📚⠀
isn’t this exactly what bookstagram is about?! thank you bookish friends for sharing the endless love for books & reading and for making it a safe place to talk about & enjoying books! ⠀
love, a fellow reader x

My current favourite dedication is from a man called ove by fredrick backman. "dear neda it's always meant to make you laugh. always." prompt 7: what would the dedication page say if you wrote a book ft. your favourite book dedication.

i like books which leaves you smiling, warm and fuzzy after you finish it. a man called ove was such a book for me.

from the gradual development of ove's character to the love between ove and sonja, i loved everything about this book.

fredrick backman is one of the new authors whom i discovered this year and i have fallen in love with his work.

if i wrote a book, then the dedication would probably say
"dear 13 year old me, you did it you, little chatterbox". qotd : which book according to you is not spoken about much in bookstagram even though its great?

For this #booksandhotdrinkstuesday we are talking about unknown books. books that's aren't widely popular but should be (or so i've understood!) it's quiet tricky because these books might just not be popular in the circles that i am part of and it could be otherwise too. either ways, here are some books i wish everybody read and spoke about!
most of these are translated from different languages and i think i really liked them because of the fabulous job done with the translation. *an iliad is an amazing retelling of the battle of troy through various characters. *memoirs of a polar bear is narrated by polar bears living during the soviet times. *i've spoken enough and more about for two thousand years which speaks about the experience of politics in a confounding manner. *shah of shahs though highly controversial is a great insight into the iranian revolution. * samskara is a master piece of kannada literature, exploring the caste system. * madonna in a fur coat is devastating love story, which leaves you frustrated and restless. * a rag called happiness is a unique window into the theatre youth of delhi post independence.
which are so of the books you think aren't read enough or spoken about on bg?

qotd: what’s your favourite literary device? -
i love hyperboles! yes! be extraaa! ✨
.
.

i could almost visualise the scenarios that inspired some of the poems in on days like this and that’s probably why i really liked it and i only now realised it *awkward laughter* . it’s a great accomplishment for an author to be able to express their thoughts vividly through their words, i believe. sure, i don’t have a clue what a few of the poems were referring to but i enjoyed the mysteries, too.

i discovered @aesthesis.inc bc of this book and i’m very grateful for that. seeing her artworks on my facebook timeline is one of the very few things that i like about that site. go appreciate her works!! 💫 .

Hello, book friends!

what’s your favorite bookstore?

my dad was in new york recently and stopped by @strandbookstore to generously pick me up some goodies! (not the pillow, though, that’s from a different shop.)

#bookreview of inkredia by @authorsarang, published by @gloryburg
🌀
this is by far my most favorite read this month. it was such an unexpectedly brilliant read. written by @authorsarang, inkredia : luwan of brida is the first book in the four part series. from the first page, it was really fast-paced but tastefully so. fantasy fiction has been my go-to genre and inkredia is a great fit to my interest in the genre.
🌀
the plot follows luwan from brida, a mountain village in inkredia, with his sister meg. luwan misses a tax payment and is now facing a penalty. so he decided to flee the village with his sister into a world filled with magic, mystery and loads of danger in the form of ghork riders and other evil beings.
🌀
the writing style is crisp and neat with no complications of characters that are presented. the construction of the plot is so brilliantly done that you are left wanting for more, which is a phenomenal idea for a book series. definitely looking out for the next part. fantasy lovers unite 😉 a solid 🌟 🌟 🌟 🌟 /5

What is your go-to place when you think of buying books?
online or from a bookstore nearby!?
🌻
well, at least for me, even with all of these places online where you can buy books at discounted prices, the charm of an independent bookstore doesn't seem to diminish anyhow.
and to top it off if you find a bookstore that sells old pre-owned books, the joy of holding a book is multiplied.
is it just i or the yellow pages of an old book makes you love them more?
the battered pages, the notes left by a previous owner, the bruised ends, the faded cover and the smell, oh the smell!!
🌻
don't get me wrong, i like a fresh copy of a book and i also prefer to keep my books in pristine condition. but even after all this time, i can not help but cherish the feeling of looking at an old book all the while imagining how much a previous owner would have loved it and how many people would it have been passed on too.
🌻
so when i found myself strolling in the streets of bangalore, and i was in the neighborhood of this very famous bookstore that goes by the name of 'the bookworm' at church street, i couldn't help but get myself some oldies to adorn my bookshelf.
find this favorite book lovers spot in church street, and i bet you would love it. and why would you not! i haven't seen such an amazing collection of old and new books alike anywhere else.
🌻
featured books in the haul:
📚 beau sabreur by p. c. wren
📚 wuthering heights by emily brontë
📚 around the world in eighty days by josé antonio vidal sales, jules verne, and víctor mora
📚 the robber bride by margaret atwood
📚 anything we love can be saved by alice walker

#qotd: do you still go to bookstores? got any favorite spots around? do you also surf around the bookstore a lot? what is your story with them?

"danger looms tall" the quote on the cover became my inspiration for the pic. 😜 and hence, the photo of a seemingly tall book😁 one good thing about ample light is that you don't have to do edits. 😎

@authorsarang you prevent me from slipping into a slump with edge of the seat moments. kudos👏🏻 #inkredia

Following a dreadful reading slump and a mind-block, i have been hit with a contrary wave. since last week i have a mad urge of reading day in and day out; reading every book non-stop one after the other from my tbr pile. i finished 3 books within 5 days and it shocked me. bless this mad rage!
.
i feel like a phoenix rising up from the ashes.
(overused, dulled expression, i know. but i do feel that way) 💃
i hope you're enjoying your reading as much as i am!

Today i'm posting about stolen kisses and both autoboyography and maybe someday fit the bill for this in my opinion.

whether that's two guys ibattling religious stigma and themselves or two people drawn together over music and sound. you've got to read both these books because they're so bloody memorable.

have you read these?

And the waiting begins....
what started of as two seemingly homeless men waiting for something or someone named godot turns to an absolute riot of imagination; ludicrous and somehow violent in its urgency.
.
who is godot? will he arrive or like mankind’s search for meaning, godot shall be a mystery?
impossible to review but a writing so powerful that it leaves you with a whole spectrum of emotions... waiting for godot is a revelation or perhaps something we knew all along.
.
i give it a solid ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️/5! and recommend it for everyone who hasn’t read beckett’s masterpiece.
have you read this book?

#qotd - have you ever judged a book by its title ? sin is the new love by abir mukherjee

total pages - 216

genre - fiction

publication - srishti publishers & distributors

my views :

1. first thing first , i really appreciate author's effort to concrete the plot . the plot itself here is no doubt fresh and finely woven .

2. the plot twist ! the plot twist has taken the story to a new level .

3. the way the author tells the story is again admirable .

4. use of simple language has made the story more interesting .

5. a reader must appreciate author's hard work and research about the characters .

it's definately an engaging read. don't try to judge the book by its title !

i want to give it 5/5 !

i want to thanks the author for this copy .

Hi everyone here is my overdue thoughts on girl with a pearl earring by tracy chevalier inspired by the real painting made by a dutch painter johannes vermeer in 1665. it is a historical novel written in the first person singular, and tells a story of griet a 16 year old girl and the protestant daughter of a delft tile painter who lost his sight in a kiln accident forced to work as a maid for the catholic vermeer growing family with its jealousy wife who from the beginning sees griet as a rival and does not approve of the interest her husband takes in her and most of all the trusts he grants her, one being the only one allowed to go into the studio while she is forbidden to go for being too clumsy. tracy’s writing is deceptively simple; light yet nuanced. it is impressive how she weaves facts and fiction so seamlessly together. however i was a little bit annoyed with vermeer’s character!! i found him selfish, i guess it comes with the territory, a true artist, let’s his mother in law negotiate his contracts, does not take an interest in the upbringing of his children, only cares for the paintings , does not take into account the consequences this could have on the lives of the other people in his household including griet who is entirely dedicated to him even though she is aware of the fact that some of the things he asks her to do will lead to her downfall. and when he starts to paint her secretly every brush s****e is dangerous to a servant girl who has no right to enjoy such intimacy with the master of the house much less to wear his wife’s pearl earrings!! you just know that everything will end in disaster!! however it is an easy and fast read and let me just put it out there the book is soo much better than the movie 😊 .
.
.
have a great day everyone 💗

synopsis: maurice swift is handsome, charming, and hungry for success. the one thing he doesn't have is talent - but he's not about to let a detail like that stand in his way. after all, a would-be writer can find stories anywhere. they don't need to be his own.
working as a waiter in a west berlin hotel in 1988, maurice engineers the perfect opportunity: a chance encounter with celebrated novelist erich ackermann. he quickly ingratiates himself with the powerful - but desperately lonely - older man, teasing out of erich a terrible, long-held secret about his activities during the war. perfect material for maurice's first novel.
once maurice has had a taste of literary fame, he knows he can stop at nothing in pursuit of that high. moving from the amalfi coast, where he matches wits with gore vidal, to manhattan and london, maurice hones his talent for deceit and manipulation, preying on the talented and vulnerable in his cold-blooded climb to the top. but the higher he climbs, the further he has to fall..
