What is kitchari? kitchari is here to help you grow spiritually, physically, and emotionally. kitchari has been consumed for thousands of years in india. it's fed to babies, seniors, the sickly; and eaten by those who have no appetite, have returned from a long trip or are simply on a budget.

kitchari is also used as a cleansing method where you actually get to eat. now that's my kinda cleanse. to do this cleanse you eat kitchari for each meal, 3 or 4 times a day, until you are full. remember, full doesn't mean stuffed. full means 1/3 food, 1/3 water and 1/3 space. yes, veggies partially count as water. no deprivation, no starvation, just pure grounded goodness. if you can't stomach kitchari in the morning feel free to eat a simple bowl of oatmeal (with no toppings!) instead and resume eating kitchari for your other meals. i'll do a kitchari cleanse mono-diet a couple times a year; spring and fall or whenever i feel like i need a reset which most of the time means after the holidays, too! i promise if you do this cleanse you will feel grounded, balanced and deeply nourished.

There’s not just one way to be a “girl boss” 🙅🏻‍♀️
you don’t have to own your own million dollar company (or any company for that matter), have 100k ig followers or launch a product to fall into this category... 👎🏼
i feel like we over glamorize owning your own business...🤔
we look down on the 9-5 lifestyle wayyy too often (esp as millennials). we see it as “being controlled” or “restricting our freedom/creativity” 💭
i often miss my 9-5. i miss the structure, the community, the health benefits, the deadlines, the variety, the steady income, the silly office stories, the work events and the list goes on 📝
you don’t have to run a business to earn the title of a “girl boss” or to feel like you’re a “success”🥇
just be the best dang human possible. the best mom, student, friend, wife, teacher, sales rep, marketer... whatever! 🙌🏻
don’t let social media fool you into fantasizing over certain lifestyles or allow you to feel like you’re less than based on your career 👎🏼
you’re more than enough and there are people envious of where you’re at. you just don’t know it 💜

Fudgy vegan mocha protein brownies (gluten free) 🍫🍫☕⠀

theres nothing like the satisfaction when you cut into a brownie, lift up a piece and see that fudgy centre! 😍 ⠀

just a quick note on coffee: there is nothing inherently bad about coffee! in fact, some studies suggest it may aid in weight loss. the issue is the 25 spoonfuls of sugar / excessive caffeine consumption when we're talking about store-brought grande varieties, which we skull 3-4 of a day. that's when an issue arises. especially for those of us with a sensitive gut, excessive caffeine can send us to the loo much faster than most. so be mindful of consumption and avoid having coffee after 3pm to get your vital 😴😴⠀

thank you to the incredibly talented plant-powered @run2food for this super simple delish recipe 😘⠀
makes: 8-12 brownies 👇⠀
ingredients 👇⠀
1 1/2 cup of gluten-free self raising flour⠀
1 cup coconut sugar⠀
1 scoop of coffee protein powder (or plain and add 1 tsp of instant coffee)⠀
1/3 cup cocoa powder ⠀
1 cup almond milk⠀
1/4 cup almond butter⠀
1/4 cup coconut oil, melted ⠀
200g vegan dark chocolate, melted⠀
2 tablespoons almond milk ⠀
1 tablespoon coconut oil, melted⠀

walnuts for decorating ⠀
method 👇⠀
1) preheat the oven to 160 degrees celsiusline a square baking tin with non-stick paper.⠀
2) in a large bowl, combine all the dry ingredients⠀
3) in another bowl, whisk together the wet ingredients until smooth⠀
4) add the wet mixture to the dry mixture, folding until no dry ingredients remain. ⠀
5) transfer the brownie batter into the square tin and bake for 20-25 minutes until a knife inserted into the centre comes out almost clean, but a little dirty.⠀
6) remove and allow to cool ⠀
7) once cool, make the frosting: mix the melted dark chortle, coconut oil and almond milk until a thick and smooth mixture forms⠀
8) spread the frosting over the brownie and sprinkle with walnuts for decoration ⠀

this brownie is definitely more chocolatey that coffee, but nonetheless very moist & delicious. so if you want a brownie that is stronger in coffee flavour, i would suggest adding 1-2 teaspoons of granulated coffee powder, or adding a shot of espresso! ☕️

Style i shoot i stories⠀
when it comes to beautiful food styling guys, your colour wheel is your best friend. get to know it😉. ⠀

whilst i'm a big fan of #eattherainbow colour in a dish, style can also be achieved with minimalism and 1 main colour choice. think about your hues and how they piece together. like in this podded pea shot. i love the simplicity of it, what do you think? i feel calmer already😍 jo x ⠀

Prevention > treatment!🙌🙌🙌 i whole heartedly believe this ... hence why i have dedicated my career / passion / years of study to psychology & nutrition 🍓🍆⠀⠀
there is most certainly a place for western and traditional medicine (e.g., i'm not about to remove my friend who has tonsillitis' tonsils with turmeric anytime soon! 🙊💛) but paramount is prevention in achieving good health ... and it all starts with nutrition!⠀⠀
eating a balanced diet is vital for good health and wellbeing. food provides our bodies with the energy, protein, essential fats, vitamins and minerals to live, grow and function properly. we need a wide variety of different foods to provide the right amounts of nutrients for good health. ❤⠀⠀
most people know good nutrition and physical activity can help maintain a healthy weight. but the benefits of good nutrition go beyond weight. good nutrition can help 👇⠀⠀
✔ reduce the risk of some diseases, including heart disease, diabetes, stroke, some cancers, and osteoporosis⠀⠀
✔ reduce high blood pressure⠀⠀
✔ lower high cholesterol⠀⠀
✔ improve your well-being (mental & physical)⠀⠀
✔ improve your ability to fight off illness (immunity)⠀⠀
✔ improve your ability to recover from illness or injury⠀⠀
✔ increase your energy level⠀⠀
not to mention food provides a source of social bonding, cultural and identity expression, and pleasure. 😁⠀⠀
{ for how you can start using food to revolutionise your health today!} 💜⠀⠀

🌝 being positive all the time is great and all but not always realistic. as walt disney once said, “i always like to look on the optimistic side of life, but i am realistic enough to know that life is a complex matter”. 🧚‍♂️ mindfulness allows us to get comfortable with things just as they are, without trying to change them.

What’s your monday morning happy place? ✨ the yoga studio? 🧘🏻‍♀️ your meditation corner? 🙏🏼 on the subway with a new podcast? 📲 staying in bed for 5 extra minutes? ❤️
i know it sounds counter-intuitive, because as a culture we’re taught to hate mondays, but i can honestly say i love sitting down at my desk on monday mornings ready to take on the new week 💪🏼
i make my coffee, turn on my new @spotify discover weekly playlist, look at my calendar and to do list for the week, and dive in ✅
i think monday’s get a bad rap because we skip over the little things and the rituals that, it turns out, are what actually bring us joy ✨
so find your monday morning happy place and get ready to have stellar and not a case of the monday’s 🙌🏼 #mondaymotivation #nutritionsqueezed 📷 @alexisdamen

I decided to treat myself to some flowers! 🌻 each time i've walked past the bunches of sunflowers they make me smile. i'm not one to buy flowers because i think: what for? though, if they can cheer me up just in passing at the store, i bet they'll be wonderful to wake up to in my bedroom! i also grabbed some eucalyptus after seeing @leefromamerica and @rachlmansfield spreading it all over their home spaces! 🌿 bring on the good vibes! what's something that's cheering you up today? .

if you've been nourishing your body in a way that isn't serving you -- whether it's the food you're putting in your body or you're eating food when your body isn't actually physically hungry or you're using food as a way to soothe yourself -- the good news is that when you choose to say "enough, i'm not going to treat my body this way anymore" you make it possible for yourself to choose a new, healthier way of nourishing yourself.
if you're ready to let go of something that isn't serving you in your relationship with food, what is one new food or eating practice that you're ready to put in it's place? maybe it's eating real whole foods and letting go of the artificial ones. maybe it's trying to notice when you're actually physically hungry before you eat instead of eating out of boredom, loneliness, habit or sadness. maybe it's putting away distractions when you eat and being present with your food.
pick one thing and commit to practicing it this week. once you feel like your new food or eating practice is a sustainable part of your life -- whether it's 3 days or 3 months from now -- honor yourself for having made this change and then pick another. remind yourself along the way that lots of baby changes can lead to major transformation so if you keep slowly adopting new, healthier changes, you can make a completely different, healthier and happier reality possible for yourself. 💛💛💛 #weekendwellness ____

What if we told you that holistic nutrition is about so much more than just what you put on your plate?

it’s what you cook with. it’s your mindset. it’s your sleep habits. it’s the type of water you drink. it’s how often you move. it’s your skincare. it’s your cleaning products. it’s your relationships. and yes - it’s also about what you eat!
holistic = looking at a each individual as a whole.
when you work with a holistic nutritionist or health coach, rest assured they’re taking a bird’s eye view at your situation to ensure you receive the quality care and results you deserve. :) if you’re considering a career in holistic nutrition, get ready to view wellness from a whole(istic) other perspective!

have you ever worked with a holistic practitioner? if so, what was your experience like?
