we broke up.

it just had to end.
*
to be honest, it had been rocky for a couple of years. we had been on and off especially the last six months. we’d go through periods where i thought we were okay, that we could be around each other. but when it came down to it, we just couldn’t.
*
peanut butter and me have experienced some heartbreak, that’s for sure.
*
but two months ago i put it to bed. i woke up to the realisation that this jar of nutty goodness had complete control over me. and it seemed absolutely nuts (yes, i went there) that this was happening! since i truly broke up with pb i have felt so free. i have gained my power back and how i feel about my body (less inflamed), myself and my choices.
*
if you are in an environment that is not setting you up for success, you have to take the action and the innatitive to change that. if people around you are constantly berating you to drink beersies and eat doritos because ‘it's friday’, you need to come back to what it is that you are working towards or want to achieve. if you night after night think that tomorrow you will really stop eating the peanut butter because it is hindering you from being successful, get rid of it. get it out of the house.

it is so easy to put the blame on other people, our environment or situations for our lack of success. but guess what? until you own your decisions and take responsibility for the decisions you are making (or not making) then nothing is going to change.
*
don’t keep giving up on your dreams or goals because you are letting other people or things in your world control you. this is your life. take your power back and own the heck out of it.

I banged these suckas out yesterday to give to my legendary clients as a treat this week. *
a couple of these guys are perfect post-training – they’ve got 10g carbs per cookie. but you’d wanna pair them with a protein source (like an easy peasey protein shake) to help with recovery. the f*t is low, which is what ya want (too much added f*t post-workout will slow down the absorption of the carbs and protein into ya bod, which should be prioritised after a workout.)

yum. sounds pretty good to me! *

2 cups oats
4 tbsp unsweetened cocoa
½ cup chocolate protein powder (but any flavour will do!)
½ cup unsweetened desiccated coconut
½ cup maple syrup
½ cup cacao nibs/ dark chocolate chips
½ tsp baking powder
1 tsp vanilla essence
½ cup natural peanut butter
2 tbsp extra v****n coconut oil

turn your oven (or your nifty toaster oven if you have a teeny tiny apartment like us and there’s not a lot of room!) to 180 degrees.
*
throw everything into a bowl and mix it up. yup, it’s that easy! melt your coconut oil and peanut butter if you need so they mix through well. *
place tablespoon-sized balls on a tray lined with baking paper. flatten with a fork and throw ‘em in the oven for 5–8 mins. just check them every now and then to make sure they don’t burn on the bottom.

this should make about 30 small cookies. plenty to share with ya mates, eh?

P r o t e i n

hands down one of the most common things i see with my clients is a lack of protein in their diets (hey, gals, yes, i am looking right at you!). and you know what? pretty much everyone has body composition goals (wanting to look and feel better in their skin), which is great. but to see some changes in yo b***y yo need to be eatin’ protein. not to mention if you have performance goals: to succeed athletically you create adaptation through training but from there you must be recovering with protein.
*
couple of fun facts for ya:
*
🍤it takes 4-5 times the amount of energy to absorb and digest protein than fats and carbs; your body burns more calories digesting protein than fats and carbs – say wha? i know. you burn calories eating. so, if you are going to be munching you want to prioritise yo prots.
🍤if you’re training you need to be recovering with nutrients to help repair the muscle and tissue that is damaged during training. protein is essential for recovery.
🍤protein is a biggee for our hormones, specifically the growth hormone, which is key for growing muscle and reducing fat.
*
and how much?
*
it is super simple: 0.8-1g protein per pound of bodyweight (e.g. 130lb/59kg ? crush 130g protein).
*
common feedback i get is: but what do i eat? and how can i get more in?
*
firstly try these guys:

lean meats
seafood
egg whites
low-fat cottage cheese
greek yoghurt
protein powder (no it’s not going to give you muscles … if it were that easy!)
collagen powder

and want a double whamy health punch? get into these veggies that have some solid protein (6g+ per 200g!): broccoli
spinach
mushrooms
corn
brussels sprouts
kale
artichoke

and how can you increase your intake? 🥚increase your portion sizes with each meal
🥚add in a couple of snacks in the morning or afternoon that are high protein
🥚use a natural protein powder
🥚ensure you have protein with every meal

i’m gonna give it to you straight: you have to prioritise you.

yes, i know you have a million things to do and you feel like you just. don’t. have. time.

women are the main caregivers in society. we wear many different hats and execute many different roles. conversations i have on the reg with women i work with is understanding the importance of prioritising yourself. not only is it essential so that you can be the best version of you in all those roles you play but, more importantly, because you are an important human being in this world and you deserve to do the things that light you up.

so what this comes down to is where you are directing your energy and how are those decisions serving you.

consider these four parts of your life:

👑spirit
👑emotional
👑mind

🍓what is going on in your body right now? do you feel strong and healthy or have you got some nagging injuries?
🍓are you making decisions that are aligned with your values? or are you giving too much of your power to other people by saying yes to things that you don’t want to be doing?
🍓are you being reactive to things and people around you or are you practicing an attitude of gratitude?
🍓are you feeling overwhelmed with your neverending to-do list of menial tasks or are you prioritising the things that are going to get you ahead?

are you being fulfilled in each area? or do you need to be redirect how you are choosing to spend your energy? *

i want to ask you something.

where is your decision making coming from? is it coming from a place of fear or from excitement? from scarcity or abundance?
*
when you make a decision to start eating ‘healthier’ on monday, is this coming from a place of fear that you gained weight over the weekend and if you gain weight that you won’t be loved anymore? or is it coming from a place of abundance: you know that when you are nourishing your body with good food and good movement you are a better you for everyone around you and it allows you to operate at your best capacity?

flip the switch. and truly ask yourself what is the intention behind your decisions. when you are making choices that make you feel excited you know you are doing the right thing. you are staying in alignment with your values. *
when you feel an icky feeling or a scrambling feeling that is a sign that your choices are led from fear. *
i am not saying that being scared is a bad thing because we often have to lean in to fear to grow and progress (doing new and scary things is a great thing!), but you know in the pit of your stomach if you are choosing to do something from a place that is a good fear or bad fear. *
you just have to find a pause, check in with yourself and trust your intuition.
*
when you say no to the things that are not in alignment with your values it makes space to say yes to the stuff that makes you feel excited and wanna say ‘heck yes!’ to. 📷 @hsiao1920
