Good evening bookstas! my reading this month is likely to be slim as i'm attempting #nanowrimo for the first time. so far i haven't managed to do more then 1 day in a row ๐Ÿ™ˆ seems to be going do a day, miss a day, do a day, miss a day ๐Ÿ™Š
whoops ๐Ÿ˜… but i'm not too far off today's target so that's good!
however, if i do get a chance to read, it's out of the three in the picture which i will be picking up ๐Ÿ‘Œ

"spirited" is certainly one way to describe my crazy toddler! this is my new bedtime reading. it does look a bit daunting though - nearly 500 pages long! ๐Ÿ˜ฑ

I’m sorry to say i gave up on peculiar ground... 70 pages in almost a month means i’m never going to finish it. when i love a book, i read it within a week max.
in other completely unrelated news, my most favourite author in the whole wide world, kate morton, has written a new book. i’m dying to get into it and squealed with happiness when it arrived! i found her on here a few days ago and i can hear the same voice in her books in all of her posts ๐Ÿ˜ @katemortonauthor

Personally, i really struggle to talk about mental health and i really struggle to read books about mental health (unless it's self-help books)... but, it's #worldmentalhealthday and it affects sooooo many people, myself included.

it's ok not to be ok. take the time... time for you to give yourself the deserved self care, the time to talk to someone if you're not ok. be kind to yourself and to others cos this world can be a monstrous place filled with invisible struggles. it's also beautiful... totally beautiful!

eleanor oliphant is completely fine, a rare book i did manage to read that is about mental health... i read it with a great deal of trepidation but by the end of it, i loved it. if you still haven't read it, even though you've seen it everywhere... check it out!

What's your favourite ww1 or ww2 book?

goodnight mr tom has always been a firm favourite of mine but this month i'm trying to read a few new ones. i love wartime books and films. especially at this time of year.

a little emotional that it's 100 years since the guns fell silent and too many incredible men and women gave their lives for us in the first world war. •
so thankful to all the brave people who serve and have served. today's world would not be what it is without them.,

they shall not grow old as we that are left grow old,
age shall not weary them nor the years condemn,
in the going down of the sun and in the morning,
we will remember them.

One for the big girls from one of my favourite writers!! @sarahwanders presents a series of comprehensive book lists for all kinds of reading designed to enrich our lives, encourage us in our struggles, motivate us to action and more. some great tips on how to read as well as the what to read and why we read. the real challenge in this book is what comes after it. what will i read next? thanks to sarah, the choice got a lot easier. Today is a good day, not only have i achieved my to do list i'm also managing to fit in some proper #mummytime wahooo! ๐Ÿ˜‚ its actually slightly unsettling... i keep thinking i should have done something or that i must have missed something important...

have you read joyful by ingrid ferrell lee? i'm only at p.17 but it's awesome so far, and the cover makes me soooo happy.

"the problem with reading a good book is that you want to finish the book, but you don't want to finish the book." - unknown
this is exactly the problem i have today. i am so close to finishing the wonderful #itonlyhappensinthemovies by @hollybourneya and although i need to know what happens to audrey, i don't want to stop reading it! ๐Ÿฟ
as a side note, how can you not love a job where reading can be described as 'product research?!๐Ÿ˜‰

Happy thursday!!! • anyone else?? โฌ†๏ธ this is very me ๐Ÿ˜‚ i've been excited to share so many books with llewellyn ever since he was the size of a lentil! still so long to wait for soooo many! •
i guess my incredible excitement to share books with him is partly why storytale decor came to be. a business built on excitement... excitement that continues every single day! and without your support my excitement would probably have faded a tad by now so thank you! i am eternally grateful for your support, whether it's a like, a follow or a purchase... you're awesome!!

Did you read this as a kid? i didn't, and i so wish i had! i hadn't read any eva ibbotson books before this week and i am now onto my 3rd. my friend told me i had to read her on sunday, so here i am a week later... an avid fan of ibbotson's.

journey to the river sea is the perfect adventure book for kids (and adults), reminiscent of a little princess and with a definite anne of green gables attitude that "you can enjoy anything if you make your mind up firmly that you will". easy to get entirely s****d into the story and not want to put it down for anything.

what the back says:
maia, an orphan, can't wait to reach her distant relatives a thousand miles up the amazon. she imagines a loving family with whom she will share great adventures. instead she finds two spiteful cousins who see the jungle as the enemy and refuse to go outdoors. but the wonders of the rainforest more than make up for the hideous carters. and when maia meets a mysterious boy who lives alone on the wild river shores, she begins a spectacular journey to the heart of an extraordinary new world.

what amazon says:
it is 1910 and maia, tragically orphaned at thirteen, has been sent from england to start a new life with distant relatives in manaus, hundreds of miles up the amazon. she is accompanied by an eccentric and mysterious governess who has secret reasons of her own for making the journey. both soon discover an exotic world bursting with new experiences in journey to the river sea, eva ibbotson's highly colourful, joyous adventure
reading level: 9 and up

my favourite quote:
"for whether a place is a hell or a heaven rests with yourself, and those who go with courage and an open mind may find themselves in paradise."

With the first rays of autumn sunshine i’m finally sitting down to join #littleoakbookclub โœจ๐Ÿ‚ autumn always feels like a new beginning to me. the conscious parent is the perfect seasonal read that matches this mood: it is a bit spiritual and encourages some long-wished inner work. even just the first couple of pages are worth reading. it puts into words a very powerful thought i was just trying to articulate myself recently: “our children contribute to our growth in ways that are perhaps more profound than we can ever contribute to theirs.(...) “while we believe we hold the power to raise our children, the reality is that our children hold the power to raise us into the parents they need us to become.” ๐Ÿ“–
