On challenging outdoor conditions: this was was a bit of a difficult shoot. on top of getting stuck in a ton of traffic, shooting in a mountain range was another challenge. the sun sets faster (1 hour before sea level in this case) and strange shadows are everywhere.
to top it off, it was a sunny but cloudy day which means the exposure was unpredictable. the best way i found to 'fight' that problem is to commit to an exposure and wait for the conditions to match your decision. always try to strike a balance between the dominant weather condition (cloud or sunny), the required mood of your project and prepare yourself for a bit of wait. or just get a ttl light 😁
regardless, i learned a lot during this shoot - i hope this little tidbit of into helped!
thanks to @instannabellegare (via @ellegancemodelz ) and her mom for this shoot.
how this was shot
1) during the session, we took some natural light portraits but the clouds made it extra difficult to find something pleasing. after a little walk around, we found this beautiful clearing with this luscious carpet of grass and moss. i knew this was going to work.
2) used the @nikonusa d810 with the 50mm since i wanted a full body portrait and didn't need that much depth of field. 35mm would've worked also
3) trusty godox ad600 with the @paulcbuffinc 35" octa (my go-to setup)
4) c-stand for the great heavy weight but small footprint (saves the sandbag)
5) the last photo is a bit of an experiment with letting a lot of light bleed in the portrait. something different
