Hey, reader friends 💜 admittedly, i’m feeling pretty low today. i’m sad and i’m angry about our political climate here in the us. i didn’t sleep well. sigh. the good news? my @bookofthemonth box arrived today. i picked the latest from @katemortonauthor 🖤 something that does give me hope in humanity is this little corner of the internet. i love our bookish nook here on instagram, and i want to thank each of you for writing and reading on with intention and courage.

•••closed•••🍂giveaway🍂 i was going to wait to see if i reached 1000 new book friends to do another giveaway, but honestly i just feel like we could all use a little joy right now given how c****y things have felt for many of us in the last few days. books don’t take away our pain, but they can be with us in our pain. 💜 i picked these two titles because they mimic the reality of our world - there is a tremendous capacity for sorrow and injustice as well as tremendous possibility for joy and camaraderie. we can navigate all of this together.

to enter:
1. follow me (please don’t follow to unfollow - we all know that’s rude)
2. tag a friend who could use some love.
3. optional - share this image and tag me in your stories so i see it! this giveaway will be open to us/can. •

if you’re feeling alone and yucky today, hear this: you are worthy. you are not alone. ❤️

I’m really slacking on the #bookstagram front because i haven’t managed to read much and i’m having real reading withdrawals. given that i’ve not yet managed to complete a book in october, maybe i will be able to stick to my book ban for the month since i’ve got so many sitting that i can’t wait to read and haven’t managed to

i read the tattooist of auschwitz a few weeks ago and it was incredibly moving ❤️ i felt so emotional after i read it. given it is true story but written fictionally, morris did an amazing job of bringing this tale to life. what was the last book you read that left you emotional?

I followed up the book thief with the alice network and right away i felt, "ahh, this is a book for me."
.
i fully understand the adoration for the book thief, to the extent that i wouldn't hesitate to recommend it to the right person. but the alice network was just so better-suited to me. it follows two women, one during wwi and one in 1947.
.
i don't want to detail the plot, as i went in pretty blind and liked that. i will say that women have long-played important roles in history and i'm so grateful to @katequinn5975 for writing this book. it's less, "women can do tough things," and more, "women do tough things." i don't read a ton of historical fiction but i'm glad i bought into the rave reviews for this one. (and 🤞 for a forthcoming tv miniseries! it's been optioned...)

Qotd:  what are your favorite tv shows?
aotd:  my very favorites include gilmore girls, sherlock, and house, though truth be told, i'm not much of a tv watcher. i tend to crave silence. 😂

good afternoon, friends! it's been a chilly, drizzly day here in my neck of the woods, and i spent a blissful big chunk of it snuggled up in my blanket on the porch, coffee in one hand, book in the other.  i wanted to share with you guys my thoughts on last week's read, the extraordinary life of sam hell. as i've mentioned before, this was my second robert dugoni book, the first being my sister's grave, which was one of my favorite suspense reads last year.  and, you guys, he wowed me again. he really is such a wonderful writer. telosh is more of a historical fiction, coming of age story, and it's one that gave me all the feels.  sam hell, born with red eyes, faced a lot of hardship, a lot of unfairness in his life as the result of being different, and even as a grown man, finds himself learning to value himself and not be ashamed of who he is. through it all, he has the support system of his pillar-of-strength parents and two steadfast friends. i loved watching sam grow up and watching him find strength and wisdom along the way.  for me, this was at least a 🌟🌟🌟🌟1/2 read.

Me: "i didn't ordered any book from book depository in a three months."
my boyfriend looked at me with worried look: "are you ill or something?"
me: "but i ordered a two paperbacks on amazon and some e-books."
my boyfriend relaxed:"oh, you are okay then." 😂😂😂😀
today was really heavy day and i can't wait to go in bed. good night from me!😘

Still thinking about #wherethecrawdadssing almost a week later. i love that when in our poll earlier this week over 100 of you said you were adding it to your tbr or had already read it. it’s definitely going to be in my top 10 books of the year. so happy @reesesbookclubxhellosunshine chose it as their september book because everyone needs to read this one. but now i need to figure out what to start next and it’s a hard one to follow. what are you reading this weekend?

🚨cover reveal!🚨
romanov one of my most anticipated books of next year! omg! i still can't believe that i get to be apart of this cover reveal! 😍 😍
@nadinebrandes first novel fawkes was absolutely incredible so i am overly excited to show you this drop dead cover for romanov!
~
@nadinebrandes , @tnzfiction & @harpercollinsus thank you so much for letting me be apart of this! #romanov, #romanovbook #nadinebrandes romanov is up for pre-order and i will have a link in my linktree!
this is a standalone anastasia retelling and it releases may 7th 2019!
~
heres a little synopsis to get you excited:
-
the history books say i died.

they don’t know the half of it.

anastasia “nastya” romanov was given a single mission: to smuggle an ancient spell into her suitcase on her way to exile in siberia. it might be her family’s only salvation. but the leader of the bolshevik army is after them . . . and he’s hunted romanov before.

nastya’s only chances of survival are to either release the spell, and deal with the consequences, or enlist help from zash, the handsome soldier who doesn’t act like the average bolshevik. nastya’s never dabbled in magic before, but it doesn’t frighten her as much as her growing attraction for zash. she likes him. she thinks he might even like her . . .

that is, until she’s on one side of a firing squad . . . and he’s on the other.
~
okay so i'll stop squealing and go get ready for work. but seriously tell me what you think of this cover in the comments! i'm dying to know!
love y'all oodles!

I have loved seeing how moriyah, eitans mom, developed into the “rock” of the family in “shelter of the most high.” though she wasn’t the main character in this book, i loved how she had an active part in the story! 📗 #amreading #christianbooks #christianblogger #bookworm #bookstagram #bookquote #quotes #currentread #biblicalfiction #historicalfiction #israel #shelterofthemosthigh #christianfiction #oldtestament #biblestory #bookrecommendations

“love is all around us. but the older we get, the more confusing it becomes. the more times we’ve been hurt, the harder it is to see love right in front of us, or to accept love into our hearts and truly believe it. if you cannot accept love, or cannot bring yourself to really believe in it, you can never really feel it.”
.
.
❤️i just adored this book. before i’d even finished i had added it to my wish list. i most definitely need a copy for my home library. romance, family relationships, generational story, wwii historical fiction...this has all my favorites!
.
.
i can’t encourage you enough to jump in with hope and her daughter annie as they search to learn their mamie’s history while she struggles with alzheimer’s. i’ve never read any kristin harmel before but i really enjoyed her writing & storytelling and i’ll be checking out some of her other works.

day 16 #fantasy
the costumes on shows like outlander are so gorgeous. i really owe my interest in historical costuming to this series. turn pushed me to take the time to learn more about the politics and people during the 1700s. also still trying to figure out what kind of saddles are being used in both shows but that’s a question for another time.

🎉it’s fall break!🎉
.
i survived my last round of parent-teacher (or, in my case, slp) conferences this evening! though it was a long 12-hour day at work, i’m lucky enough to have some glorious days off as a reward. sorry to all you people with jobs that don’t give out 5-day weekends regularly 🙈 i’m looking forward to catching up on some reading over the break. any other school friends joining me in that goal?
.
this #freebook arrived on my porch the other day as a lucky @goodreads giveaway win. the fallen architect is by charles belfoure, the same author who wrote the paris architect, which is also on my wishlist to read someday. i’ve always loved vivid historical fiction, and the architectural plot line of this one sounds super intriguing. thanks for my copy, @sourcebooks!
.
publisher’s summary:
.
“someone has to take the blame.
.
when the britannia theatre's balcony collapses, killing over a dozen people, the fingers point at the architect. he should have known better, should have made it safer, should have done something.
.
douglas layton knows the flaw wasn't in his design, but he can't fight a guilty verdict. when he is finally released from prison, he has nothing: no job, no family, nowhere to go. he needs to assume a new identity and rebuild his life.
.
but he soon finds himself digging up the past in a way he never anticipated. if the collapse was not an accident ... who caused it? and why? and what if they find out who he used to be?”

I went to see kate morton speak tonight in toronto. her new book, the clockmaker’s daughter, was just released in canada. she was a very engaging speaker, and it was so interesting to hear how she gets her inspiration and ideas for her novels. she was also super friendly, signed our books, and chatted with us like we were in a book club together. can’t wait to read this book! #katemorton #theclockmakersdaughter #historicalfiction #mystery #romance #multigenre #fiction @katemortonauthor

Just finished this book!!
rating: 3/5
while i do plan on reading the next two, i have to admit that this one just wasn’t my cup of tea. i found the romance between cassie and evan awkward, and i just wasn’t the biggest fan of cassie over all.
