This coming tuesday i launch my most ambitious project yet via @kickstarter: the #flyingmartha ornithopter, a mechanical flying passenger pigeon. it's taken me four years to make something that 1) really flies and flies well 2) tells an amazing story 3) looks beautiful, is entirely handmade, and is fairly priced. i can't wait to share this passion project with you 🙏✨❤️🐦#hapticlab #ornithopter #passengerpigeon #extinctionisforever #kickstarter #imfreakingout #believethehype i'm gonna need your help, everybody!

The #flyingmartha is now on @kickstarter, a wind-up flying passenger pigeon powered by a rubber band! link in profile 🐦❤️✨🙏 this has been one of my passion projects for years, combining my research in early american aviation (the wright bros) with a deepening interest in sustainable design (the sixth extinction). it's a fun toy, an anti-drone, and a beautiful object you'll be proud to display in your home. please consider supporting the flying martha and help get the word out! #hapticlab #kickstarter #passengerpigeon #ornithopter #extinctionisforever

Ta daaa....from the us of a, the @hapticlab flying martha ornithopter...the perfect gift y’all!! the other day whilst pottering about all alone in my harborne side street store (ha i know didums) with my only visitor being a loony with a runny nose who made me write strange names and the word hospital next to them on small pieces of paper in tiny neat writing..smaller please, neater, neater please (true story!!!) i thought if nothing else i have the makings of a good script.
i’m desperate to get to the gwa today but fear i’m stuck flowering in harbs - it make’s sense....yesterday we sold lots of bunches which instantly cheered me up. i also had an order for a mega bunch for one of my fave customers so i’m truely living the dream (sort of) next year we want to step up the flowers, get someone to help me and really see if we can make this flowering fandango work. ah but i’ve digressed, i must dash we’ve had an ottolenghi hamper from my dad (god i am so spoilt) and i’m determined to have a root about before the boys eat it all and i start for what i hope dear reader will be a very busy day 😊✨🎄

It’s amazing what you can do with a little bit of wood, paper and a whole lot of imagination. the flying martha ornithopter by @hapticlab is made of bamboo and mulberry paper. as serendipity would have it, mulberry is a traditional kite material and what i happen to use for all my woodblock prints. this means the 2-color block print of the extinct passenger pigeon can go straight to structure and actually fly. this is a video of my first time handling what was once imagined. please take the time to check out haptic lab’s @kickstarter.

Excited to share #flyingmartha has been accepted in the @ipcny winter group show, edging forward, opening this thursday 1/11 from 6-8pm. the exhibition showcases a wide-range of highly experimental work in contemporary printmaking, both content and technique. creation and construction by @haptician, relief print by me and published by @hapticlab in honor of the extinct passenger pigeon. i got to preview a lot of incredible work at drop off (sadly i can’t make it to the show) and am incredibly impressed by how printers push outside of paper, form and really play with ideas. on view until march 28.
