Remember my insane book disinterest from last week? sweetbitter by stephanie danler finally got me out of it!! πŸ™ŒπŸ»πŸ“– 🍷 i definitely have some bones to pick with it, but i’m very entertained by the setting and the restaurant environment reads as very nostalgic to me. •

quick trivia for you: my first job ever was as a hostess at a country club, which was quite a place to start! πŸ‘€ i quickly learned that working in a restaurant is a very unique social experience, and this is absolutely reflected in the book. •

πŸ’ what was your first job?πŸ’ tell me here! πŸ‘‡πŸΌπŸ‘‡πŸΌπŸ‘‡πŸΌ

🍁fall-ing for you🍁

spent yesterday with my husband and a friend, taking book pictures at the local garden. it reminded me of those scenes in rom-coms, where the perfect date is toting books around the park and eating pastries while sipping coffee. 🍁
i used to think i hated rom-coms. the idea that every day was special seemed so far fetched to me. but then, as i placed stacks of books all over the garden, i looked up at my husband and realized this was our life. we’ve spent six years living a love story. my life is a rom-com, and i’ve been oblivious to it all this time. 🍁
here’s my question for today; if i went into a bookstore looking for your story, what genre would i find it in? let’s think of this as an extension to the #mystorystack . it doesn’t have to be your life story—it can be the story of your life since high school, since marriage, since birth, since you stubbed your toe on the coffee table—it just has to be the part of your life you share with people. my genres would be; domestic fiction, romcom, thriller, and contemporary fiction. not in that order.

Review: the unfortunate importance of beauty - •

a group of artsy friends living in new york city tackle topics such as beauty and below-average appearance, while also solving a twisted m****r mystery - and that just covers the surface. a lot happened in this book. i went into it without knowing a thing about it & you should, tooπŸ“š

@bookofthemonth day is the best day! the far field is my december selection and it seems to be right in my wheelhouse. .
.
.
. πŸ‚ here is the synopsis πŸ‚

gorgeously tactile and sweeping in historical and socio-political scope, pushcart prize-winner madhuri vijay's the far field follows a complicated flaneuse across the indian subcontinent as she reckons with her past, her desires, and the tumultuous present.

in the wake of her mother's death, shalini, a privileged and restless young woman from bangalore, sets out for a remote himalayan village in the troubled northern region of kashmir. certain that the loss of her mother is somehow connected to the decade-old disappearance of bashir ahmed, a charming kashmiri salesman who frequented her childhood home, she is determined to confront him. but upon her arrival, shalini is brought face to face with kashmir's politics, as well as the tangled history of the local family that takes her in. and when life in the village turns volatile and old hatreds threaten to erupt into violence, shalini finds herself forced to make a series of choices that could hold dangerous repercussions for the very people she has come to love.

with rare acumen and evocative prose, in the far field madhuri vijay masterfully examines indian politics, class prejudice, and sexuality through the lens of an outsider, offering a profound meditation on grief, guilt, and the limits of compassion.

this one is out january 15th! what did you guys choose?

Today i wanna talk about hyped books.

i jumped on the poppy war train as soon as i heard the synopsis, and i really enjoyed it. it was more gruesome, and not focused on the main character needing a partner, which i dig.

it was a four star read for me personally, but i seem to be in the minority for not rating it higher.

i absolutely love what r.f. kuang did, and think it is an amazing debut novel for an author.

what is a book you read because of the hype but were let down by? let me know!

What was the best advice you received about new reads this year?πŸ“šπŸ“šπŸ“š as 2018 draws to a close, it’s the perfect time to reflect on how positive my reading experience this year so far has been.

i'm so grateful to all the authors who show interest in my reviews and take some time to answer my questions and all the publishers that kindly sent arcs.

i'm mainly thankful to @wickwrites for the amazing opportunity to read her books and chat with a new talented author. i cannot use enough words to describe how much i loved the fantastic historical fictions of @camilledimaio__author and @chanelcleeton. i laughed so much with @misselizagordon and @christinalauren. and @kerrylonsdale 's characters have now a special place in my heart.

i've read each of these lovely authors for the first time this year, and i've appreciated their writing style in more than one book, so i'm more than happy to recommend to add their books to your tbr. πŸ’πŸ’πŸ’ happy reading! 😘
